“Artisphere is more than a festival—it’s a celebration that gives back. Through partnerships, grants, scholarships, and educational programs,” states Sandy Adams who manages Vocal Matrix volunteers for these events, “Artisphere supports local artists and arts organizations while expanding access to creative education.”
Through collaborations with arts organizations and community groups, Artisphere extends its impact beyond the festival footprint by supporting creative education, performance opportunities, and community engagement year-round. Vocal Matrix Chorus has been one of those organizations for the past 15 years.
Founded in 2003 and first held in downtown Greenville in 2005, Artisphere has grown from a juried fine-art festival into one of the city’s signature cultural weekends. Each May, the festival brings visual art, live performance, hands-on demonstrations, children’s activities, and local food into the heart of downtown, drawing tens of thousands of residents and visitors to Main Street and the Falls Park area.
Over the years, Artisphere has also become an economic engine for Greenville. Recent festivals have reported attendance ranging from about 80,000 to more than 100,000 people, with local economic impact estimates climbing into the millions. The festival has welcomed nationally selected artists, supported local and student artists, and reinvested more than $1 million into artists, arts organizations, scholarships, stipends, awards, and nonprofit partners since its launch.
For Vocal Matrix Chorus, that community-centered mission is personal. Chorus members support Artisphere by volunteering and performing during Artisphere weekend, helping create the welcoming, energetic atmosphere that keeps festivalgoers returning year after year. Over the past six years, chorus members have contributed more than 1,700 volunteer hours toward the success of this event for the Greenville community. As with other nonprofit partners, the stipend Vocal Matrix receives for volunteer service helps the chorus continue to flourish, perform, and grow in its chosen art form.
The impact on our chorus has been significant as Artisphere gives Vocal Matrix Chorus a visible place in one of Greenville’s most beloved public celebrations—strengthening relationships, expanding audiences, and reminding the community that the arts thrive when people show up for one another.
