Months of Preparation Shine in a Joyful Vocal Matrix Performance
Vocal Matrix stepped onto the Region 14 barbershop chorus competition stage in April with 37 singers, including several who were experiencing regionals for the very first time. After months of hard work, rehearsals, coaching, and careful fine-tuning of their two-song set, the chorus was ready to share the music they had poured so much heart into preparing. Their ballad, In the Wee Small Hours, was especially meaningful: the classic arrangement was co-created by Jim Arns, one of the chorus’ favorite coaches and a treasured part of its musical journey. For their up tune, Vocal Matrix let their joy shine through with Clay Hines’s lively and much-loved arrangement of Ain’t He Sweet/Yes Sir, That’s My Baby. The singers clearly had fun onstage, bringing warmth, energy, and sparkle to every moment of the performance. This annual competition is something the chorus looks forward to all year, and their dedication paid off beautifully: Vocal Matrix earned second place in the AA Mid-size Chorus Division and third place overall.
