News & Events

On Monday, September 21, a group of Vocal Matrix members started the week in the spotlight with an appearance on Your Carolina (WSPA 7News). Members were interviewed about the upcoming October 3, 2026 fall show, What Could Possibly Go Wrong?, and also performed live on the program. It was a wonderful opportunity to share some Vocal Matrix harmony with the Upstate and build excitement for the show!

Fourteen of Vocal Matrix Chorus’s members spent three days at the beautiful Catholic Conference Center in Hickory, NC, for SUI Region 14’s Jungle-Themed Music Camp! Campers received coaching and classes from Master 700 director and SUI international faculty member, Lori Lyford of Scottsdale Chorus, as well as some incredible leadership training from SUI International Faculty, Jackie Kaminer and Region 14’s own Education Coordinator, Jamy Claire Archer.  All of the attending VMx members, including our director, Dr. Kimberly Graham, jumped on the risers to participate in the Camp Chorus, directed by Carolina Hamony’s Susie Smith.

Vocal Matrix Chorus was delighted to share an evening of music to a full house for a community event in Tryon. Our program included sweet ballads, toe-tapping up- tunes, “God Bless the USA,” and other patriotic favorites that helped make the performance especially meaningful.

Throughout the performance, the room was filled with ringing chords, smiles, laughter, applause, and a few happy tears. The audience’s warmth and enthusiasm made the evening truly special, and we were honored to receive a standing ovation at the close of the concert.

“Artisphere is more than a festival—it’s a celebration that gives back. Through partnerships, grants, scholarships, and educational programs,” states Sandy Adams who manages Vocal Matrix volunteers for these events, “Artisphere supports local artists and arts organizations while expanding access to creative education.”

Vocal Matrix Chorus fills North Hills Church dining room with joyful barbershop chords during a special performance for local seniors

Vocal Matrix Chorus had the pleasure of sharing an afternoon of music with a wonderful group of seniors at North Hills Church. Our a cappella program featured a mix of beloved favorites, from timeless classics like “At Last” to well-known Billy Joel songs and several patriotic tunes that brought smiles all around.

Vocal Matrix stepped onto the Region 14 barbershop chorus competition stage in April with 37 singers, including several who were experiencing regionals for the very first time. After months of hard work, rehearsals, coaching, and careful fine-tuning of their two-song set, the chorus was ready to share the music they had poured so much heart into preparing.

Vocal Matrix Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Kimberly Graham, is excited to announce their participation in the upcoming Region 14, Heart of the Blue Ridge competition, taking place this April in Concord, NC. The chorus has spent the past year diligently preparing both their ballad and up-tune selections, building unity and musicality through dedicated weekly rehearsals.

Vocal Matrix Chorus is thrilled to celebrate their recent opportunity to perform on the international stage during the Sweet Adelines International (SAI) convention and competition held in Columbus, Ohio this past week. The event brought together talented choruses from around the world, creating a vibrant atmosphere of musical excellence and camaraderie.

Just a few months ago, VMx members Connie, Maggie, Susan, and Kimberly joined together to form a new quartet with the goal of competing at the Sweet Adeline International Diamond Division competition in Tulsa, OK.

Mix It Up was first on stage as contestant number one, so they were able to sit back and enjoy the rest of the performances! Their weekend was brimming with music, educational opportunities, camaraderie, joy, and laughter. Welcome home!

Vocal Matrix Chorus was honored to share our barbershop harmonies at the annual meeting of the SC state board of P.E.O. International (Philanthropic Education Organization).

Thank you Artisphere for inviting VMx to entertain visitors during this amazing annual celebration of the arts in downtown Greenville SC. The festival is an annual, three-day event that provides art enthusiasts the unique opportunity to directly engage with exhibiting artists.

VMx had an exciting weekend in Concord, NC where we participated in the Region 14 Competition, performing on stage for evaluation. Why "for evaluation only (you might be asking)?. The intent was to receive some critical feedback from a phenomenal panel of experts in sound, music, expression and visual communication; this panel was also judging the regional chorus and quartet competitions that were taking place Friday and Saturday.

Vocal Matrix Chorus was honored to perform the National Anthem at the start of the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament in Greenville, SC. We then enjoyed the exciting game between the University of South Carolina and Vanderbilt University!
